Like people setting mouse traps in their houses. Demons have set traps against me on my own home, they were hoping to entice me to open the wrong doors and windows. What’s more alarming is that despite my knowledge of their intentions, it’s still working out. Indeed the enemy is formidable, it knew how to tempt me so that I would make mistakes and hate myself. How should I do to overcome this?

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,  because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:1-2

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Galatians 5:16-17

#1 Intentional Exposure To The World Is A Bad Idea

Often times, the enemy will try to pull us into worldliness by using ourselves, people or even things of this world to tempt us. The moment we set our focus in this world, sinful temptations will follow and we’ll be in trouble, they will try to ensure that we remain grounded, so that we remain powerless to follow Jesus.

I’m not only talking about normal sins, I’m also talking about being obsessed with TV shows and playing violent games.

No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.

Luke 11:33-34

You will also find the same conclusions if you research behavioral science documentaries. Remove our spots, then we will be free from the enemy’s influence.

#2 Reciting Verses

But what do we do if we are already drowned into our worldly desires? Some of the verses that page cited are powerful warfare tools worth memorizing:

“Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:11

“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2

“Sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

#3 Be Glad and Sing Songs of Worship

The purpose of the enemy has always been to steal, to kill and to destroy. Sin will steal us of our joy in the Lord. Instead of mourning for our sins and hating ourselves, we must be grateful that His mercies are new every morning, yes even if we find ourselves hard headed in doing what we know is wrong. This simply shows that we are weak and we need to find our strength in Christ Jesus. A grateful heart is filled with joy and thanksgiving, it trusts that the Lord will deliver him from his own sinful nature and the evil that tries to chain him into oppression.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly
John 10:10
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Philippians 4:4

#4 Rebuking

One thing about demons, is that they work through suggestions, sometimes through our minds, at other times through people or even through the media, it could be anything. Remember that our enemy is formidable, and that we must be vigilant:
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8
Rebuking is as simple as this, “In Jesus’ Name, I command you to depart from me spirit of anger, I burn your fruits and destroy your power over me. You will leave me alone and never return” Be sure to repent of your sins before the Lord as well.

#5 Resting in the Lord

Remember to take your time to return to the Lord after every work moment. The reason we fall is because life in this world can be overwhelming.

#6 Self Forgiveness

Self-condemnation will not help us. Forgive and forget.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven–as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Luke 7:47

How can you be full of joy if you live in self-condemnation? It is just a way the enemy use to steal your joy. And if that happens, how can we convince the world that we are victorious? That through Jesus Christ we are overcomers? Now you know the answer.
